“All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”-Arthur Schopenhauer
Use this quote to map the timeline of 2020, and you’ll find it fits perfectly. At some point, we will hit the final stage: the truth will be accepted as self-evident.
And all those that initially ridiculed the truth will change their tune while pretending—and believing it themselves—that they always thought that way.
This is just one more example of the power of the human mind to delude itself.
The most insidious and destructive failing of the human mind is confirmation bias—the tendency to seek out information that supports current beliefs and ignore evidence to the contrary.
You find this everywhere. In fact, for the average person, they are walking and talking bundles of confirmation bias.
Another thing that most people don’t realize is how their perception is not reality.
Sure, you can fight hard against your bias and try to be self-aware, but most don’t. Even then, what you see, think, and feel are still subjective experiences.
Yet people still believe what they see, hear, and think is reality. It’s just not so. Your worldview is an interpretation of reality. As it goes with interpreting anything, the interpretation is in the eye of the interpreter.
The key is self-awareness and questioning everything, especially yourself.
