Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease.-Hippocrates
In the 1800s, it was common in some hospitals for doctors to handle cadavers in the morgue before going to the maternity ward to deliver babies. Handwashing in medicine was not yet a thing.
A doctor, Ignaz Semmelweis, theorized a connection between a lack of handwashing and a high fever and death rate in new mothers in the maternity ward. So he mandated handwashing in chlorinated lime water for anyone that entered his department. The deaths of puerperal fever and death dropped immediately.
He took this to the rest of the Vienna hospital, urging doctors to start washing their hands. As it goes with humans who are more interested in the status quo, he was ignored, ridiculed, and eventually fired for his "crazy ideas" that doctors should wash their hands.
It seems the doctors didn't like the idea that something they were doing was contributing to their patient's death. So they conveniently ignored the messenger—while attacking him so they could feel better about themselves— and handwashing took another 100 years to become medical standard.
Hmm, I wonder how much of this goes in in the medical field today? A good book to read on this is Lies My Doctor Told Me by Ken Barry
The capacity for ego and bias in humans is unlimited.
I often think about this quote from Upton Sinclair, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it."
Politicians, professors, doctors, corporate executives, teachers, neighbors, friends, and family all fall victim to their perception and bias.
And in a world where your salary is on the line in many cases, changing one's mind is not a luxury most people think they have.
So we get the crazy world of 2020—suppression of constitutional rights, fake news and data, fear porn, and a complete detachment from nature herself.
Humans have a TERRIBLE history of interacting with nature. The thing we're best at is destroying nature and ourselves. Maybe this is due to our short sighted perspective.
After all, it either goes boom or doesn't, whereas regeneration and prevention are sometimes hard to quantify, requiring more time and patience.
As an individual, this should highlight the importance of taking your health and future into your own hands.
If you rely on "experts" in any form for your critical thinking, you are taking a BIG gamble.
People have been relying on the government and doctors to tell them how to eat and live for years. Yet 1 in 3 children are obese, and 50%+ of adults are as well.
Over 1.5 million Americans die each year from lifestyle-related disease—that means you can prevent them by changing your lifestyle.
Yet who is answering for it? Who has been thrown in jail for this? Who even has to apologize for it?
No one.
Change will not happen from the top down but from the bottom up and only when enough aware citizens wake up and stop playing the rigged game. Only then will the incumbents be forced to change.
