What got you here won’t get you there.
I think about this line often.
As an organization or an individual, it’s something we need to consider if we want to reach bigger results.
Humans are creatures of habit. We default to whatever our mean is in our work, abilities, and ways of thinking.
To go beyond this is hard. And if you aren’t thinking about it, it’s probably impossible.
I think goal setting with a consistent schedule as a foundation linked to that goal is the best thing most of us can do.
This will get you linear results, though not exponential. Exponential is a much murkier thing that is more connected to outliers.
Another way to consider this at the personal level is this: If you want to do something you’ve never done, you need to become the person that has done said thing.
You have to become someone else.
Each thing you've achieved thus far is a result of who you were and who you have since become.
But it gets harder and harder to get more. The closer we get to our ceiling, the more we have to figure out new ways to evolve.
What can you cut or improve to become the person that has/thinks/acts the way your future self does?
That’s the question you should consider daily.
