The Dangers of our Narcissist Culture

Just think of a world where people are not greedy—then the rich person will be thought neurotic, the politician will be thought neurotic. Then the people who are constantly hankering for attention will be thought retarded. And if people are not greedy, we will have a totally different world, more beautiful. There will be fewer possessions, certainly, but more joy, more music, more dance, more love.

Narcissism in our culture has hit elephantine proportions.

More than 250 people have died of selfie-related incidents between 2011 and 2017. I'm sure this number is much higher since 2017.

Consider how this desire for likes, comments, and attention goes beyond your social account and into your psyche.

Consider how it makes people unhappy as they constantly seek the hot air of attention.

Consider how suicide rates—especially in the younger generation growing up with social media as a constant—are at record highs.

Consider our consumerist culture and how it is based on seeking MORE and BETTER and NEW and GREENER GRASS in a vain attempt at satisfying our never-ending need for fulfillment and purpose.

You can go on YouTube and search "social media narcissists" and find some of this absurd behavior, like one girl posing in the middle of protestors with a BLM sign while quickly getting in her BMW and driving away.

This is more than something to laugh at. We should feel bad for these people because they have no idea how much damage they are doing to their long term health and wellbeing. I think it's worse than the preliminary research suggests, much worse.

As our culture becomes more depressed, more drugged, and suicides increase, this is how our society will respond: more drugs, more "experts," and more bad aid approaches to manage something rather than solve it. After all, most people won't want to give up their attention-seeking behavior or get outside and exercise or eat Real Food. They will instead try to BUY a quick fix.

And this is just one more example of the mismatch of our modern world.
